ANNOUNCEMENTS•
The regions of Twente and Brabant will jointly receive €1.6 million from the government in the fight against healthcare scammers. Criminals are increasingly attacking through this sector.
The money goes to those regions because, according to Minister Helder, they are already on the right track there: “Twente is a pioneer and does it very well. They are very transparent about their working method, so that the rest of the Netherlands can learn from it.” adds RTV Ext.
In Twente – after years of dealing with scammers – since 2018 healthcare workers have been extensively vetted before they actually provide healthcare. Elsewhere in the country this often happens later, while lenders have already received money for work they don’t always do.
These so-called care companies, for example, falsely bill health insurers for home care that was never provided.
Better collaboration and innovation
With government money, the municipalities of the regions, among other things, will work more closely with the care offices. Municipalities and care offices – responsible for contracts with the various care providers – now often encounter the problem of exchanging information around shady care entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, some of the money is also used to develop innovations to stop dubious healthcare entrepreneurs.
