Minister used data without scientific support to ask experts to eliminate compulsory vaccination

(CRHoy.com) The Minister of Health, Joselyn Chacón, asked the National Commission for Vaccination and Epidemiology (CNVE) consider the elimination of the compulsory nature of the vaccine against COVID-19 in public officials.

The request was made last May 10 in an extraordinary session held by the committee that she chairs.

The chief argued that “This measure can generate more confidence in the population and would increase vaccination coverage,” as stated in the document with the scientific criteria of the members of the CNVE.

However, the technical team of the Ministry of Health and the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) made the health chief see that her argument had no technical or scientific basis, other than her presumption, contrary to the assessments made by specialists on the positive impact of mandatory vaccination.

“(…) the members of the CNVE indicate that we are willing to assess the scope of the obligation, as long as you present us with information from reliable sources that support your position and that, on our part, we could seek additional information to be analyzed so that we can make a properly informed decision, ”says the report.

The 25-page document, of which CRHoy.com has a copy, presents technical information compiled by officials, with which they explain to Chacón that there is no scientific support that allows them to recommend the elimination of the obligation of the biological against SARS-CoV-2.
