Minister: ‘Supporting KLM not yet an urgent necessity’ | Financial

The Hague has recently held talks with the European Commission about a new funding round. Hoekstra admits that in a new round of support, there is a good chance that KLM will have to surrender slots at Schiphol. The minister wants to take this impact into account in the question of whether and how new support is needed.

The Hague further states that the prospects and expectations for the recovery of the sector ‘may be positive’, but that there is still ‘a lot of uncertainty’. Hoekstra and Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure) want to investigate in the coming period how the aviation sector will recover. They do not rule out new support rounds.

State concern

The French State announced on Tuesday that it would increase its interest in parent company Air France KLM to 29 percent. The Netherlands has an interest of 14 percent. Due to the step of Paris, this decreases to 9.3 percent.

Hoekstra writes to the House that the Netherlands has decided not to increase the interest. According to him, the change in relationships “has no consequences for the safeguarding of public interests.”
