“There are addictions that reach the highest levels. The scandal with Krasio Chernia led to some dismissals in the SJC and magistrates. Let’s hope that the case of Martin Bojanov-Notarywhich has been known for years, will have consequences that are at the institutional level”commented Minister of Justice Atanas Slavov on Sunday in front of bTV.
“I insist on an effective investigation – who are the guarantors, what levels in the judicial system have the addictions reached, who are the magistrates who fell into such addictions. I have the authority to propose disciplinary sanctions. They will be imposed by the two new councils. For each magistrate, for who is found to have an access card to this club, for anyone who is known to have exerted pressure and racketeering – I will institute disciplinary proceedings and propose his release.” emphasized the minister, referring to the private magistrates’ club associated with the Notary.
Meanwhile, the co-chairman of the PP-DB group, Atanas Atanasov, announced on Nova TV that he had anonymously received a list of members of the club in question, and among them were people from the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office.
Minister Slavov made it clear that he has serious expectations for the temporary parliamentary commission, initiated by Delyan Peevski, to unravel how Martin Bojanov and the group around him exerted pressure on magistrates and remained untouchable for justice.
“The case of threatening Judge Tsarigradska is from 3 years ago. Measures were taken that did not yield results. The investigation of the Anti-Corruption Fund is from 2021. Last year, during the hearing in the SJC of the “Eight Dwarfs” case, I also insisted on hearing the case” Quick Checklist”. The main actor is no longer alive. He would be the ideal protected witness because he is the broker between the political or oligarchic part and the judicial system.”added Slavov, speaking of Martin Bojanov, who was killed on January 31.
“It is the responsibility of the institutions not to leave dust in their eyes. These commissions are often ineffective. They are denied information even by the prosecutor’s office. The question is also touched upon – does the prosecutor’s office have a complete monopoly on the pre-trial process, can it provide information on pre-trial proceedings? “he pointed out.
“This is not about political interference, about giving instructions, but about making it clear to the public what is happening. When I took office 8 months ago, this was the first case I was interested in. Judge Tsarigradska had also submitted information to the Ministry of justice. The prosecutor’s office said that they are working. There are pre-trial proceedings, but the question is about the moment when there will be defendants”continued Slavov.
“The connection between Ivan Geshev and the circles around Martin Bojanov and Petyo Evroto is clear. It was claimed by the participants themselves – both by Petyo Evroto and by Martin Bojanov. One of his lines is – “We talk to God”, referring to the Attorney General. This relationship itself should be investigated.”the minister emphasized.
Constitutional reform
“In the last less than three years, caretaker governments have predominantly ruled. This is the factual situation. Judicial reform has begun with the changes in the Constitution, but it is yet to enter a decisive phase with the changes in the Law on Judiciary.”he said.
Despite the recent contract killings, the minister does not think that the Mutren years are returning. “There is a chance for Bulgaria to break away from these dependencies”he added.
The acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship
“The acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship by origin is well regulated. The council includes the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Social Affairs. Every application for citizenship must receive a positive opinion from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of the Interior. We have checked the procedure that is taking place in the Ministry of Justice, no such cases have been established (of Russian citizens who received Bulgarian passports – note ed.).
We have submitted over 80 reports to the prosecutor’s office for attempts to acquire Bulgarian citizenship with false documents. The former Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov also made such signals. There are thousands of cases in which we send the documents to the Ministry of the Interior to determine whether they are real or not,” commented Minister Slavov.
