Minister Sandiaga Uno Denies Inviting PKS Out of Change Coalition for Unity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno denied that he invited the Prosperous Justice Party or PKS out of Change Coalition for Unity. “Not at all,” he said when met at the DPR RI Complex, Jakarta, Friday, June 9, 2023.

Sandiaga said that so far he had approached PKS to offer ideas. He realized that the party had joined the Coalition for Change and had agreed on the presidential and vice-presidential candidates he would support. “Invite PKS to join in this thinking, how do we focus on the economy,” he said.

Sandiaga admitted that he only offered ideas to PKS regarding the hopes of the people who wanted sustainability, so that accelerated development was needed.

“But how can PKS be part of this acceleration axis. Now, of course we will talk about how to build the nation together,” he said.

However, Sandiaga said he would be sincere if PKS ultimately decided with the Coalition for Change. “I am sincere, in my opinion it is the best for this nation, but if he is one of the PKS friends, he can consider what I offer, because I am supported by data. This data shows that the majority of Indonesian people want sustainability,” he said.

He said, running Indonesia we cannot be divided. “We must unite because time is very limited,” he said.

Sandiaga said that PKS had several notes regarding sustainable economic development. “Development of a more just sharia economy, fair handling of the law,” he said.

Sandiaga said he considered PKS a comrade in arms in the Indonesian political arena. Remembering Sandi’s words, he had worked with PKS for 7 years

Previously, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the United Development Party, Romahurmuziy alias Rommy, considered Sandiaga’s close relationship with PKS to be an attempt to entice the party to join the PDIP and PPP coalition. The coalition is known to have carried Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate.

“I told you what it is, that it was Pak Sandi’s wish to invite PKS to the government,” said Rommy when met after the National Leadership Meeting of the Kaaba Youth Movement (GPK) at the Redtop Hotel, Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

Rommy stressed that the closeness between the cadre candidate who was rumored to be promoted to be vice president of PPP and PKS was often misunderstood. Even so, according to him, the closeness was an effort to add members to the PDIP-PPP coalition. “Yes, I explained again earlier. Really. People often misread,” he said.

Many suspect that PKS’s closeness to Sandiaga Uno is to rematch the former Gerindra politician with Anies Baswedan like in the 2017 DKI Pilkada.

The last Sandiaga said that he was currently undergoing an orientation period at PPP. He was given two weeks to undergo that period before finally officially joining the Kaaba Party.
