Olivier Véran the Minister of Health is counting on this visit to address the vaccination issue.
I come to Martinique to say things. The wave of covid hitting the West Indies is the consequence of insufficient vaccination. It kills thousands of people, doeszens of deaths a day and puts stress on the health system. My thoughts are with the families.
Olivier Véran met the medical staff of the health reserve who reinforce the local teams. His visit took place in the emergency departments and the intensive care unit.
A military hospital will soon be operational in Martinique. A response to the request made by the president of the executive council of the CTM, Serge Letchimy. A military hospital equipped with about twenty resuscitation beds, according to the Minister of Health in front of the nursing staff.

The minister also noted that the military health service is operational. Medical evacuations will continue. The next ones will be held at the end of the week and will free up places for other patients.
More than 600 volunteers are ready to come from France to lend a hand to the overseas territories. As in Guadeloupe, the patients we have here are not vaccinated.
In front of journalists he deplored the low level of vaccination in Martinique.
For the past few days, we have recorded a very sharp acceleration in requests for the first injection. The state of mind is changing. The delay in vaccination can no longer last. Vaccines are available to anyone who wants to be vaccinated. We must protect hospitals, we must protect the population.

The Minister of Health indicated that a treatment against covid -19 would soon be made available in Guadeloupe and Martinique.
These are dual monoclonal antibody therapies that treat mild to moderate symptomatic forms of covid in an outpatient adult.
Olivier Véran announced investments for overseas hospitals thanks to the Ségur de la santé.
Several hundred million euros will be used to rebuild and modernize buildings that are aging. There is also a takeover of hospital debts at the rate of several million euros, the recruitment of caregivers, the creation of beds … the money is there, the promises are kept.
No patient will be deprived of care if they do not have their health pass. The logic of the health pass is to protect people’s lives. It is not to prevent them from accessing health care.
