Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, confirmed that the implementation of the fourth line comes within the plan of the Ministry of Transport to implement the directives of the political leadership to complete the implementation of the subway line network, which is considered one of the most important means of smart, green, environmentally friendly mass transportation that is implemented in accordance with the latest international specifications to achieve the highest levels of security and safety.
The minister explained that the line has a length of 42 km and 39 stations, and is being implemented in two phases. The first phase extends from Hadayek Al Ashgar station to Al Fustat station, with a length of 19 km and includes 17 stations (16 tunnels + 1 surface). The second phase extends from Al Fustat station to the complex transportation area station. With a length of 23 km and a number of 22 stations (21 tunnel stations + 1 surface station), the line, in its two phases, is planned to carry about 1.5 million passengers daily, and thus it is considered a link between the governorates of Cairo and Giza and 6th of October City.
The minister added that civil works are currently being implemented for the western part of the first phase in the distance from Hadayek Al Ashgar station to Al Mesaha station, with a length of 13.7 km and a number of 12 stations, by an alliance of Egyptian companies, “Arab Contractors – Concord – Petrojet – Hassan Allam Construction.” In addition, detailed designs for all electromechanical systems, railways and the workshop are being prepared by the Egyptian/Japanese consortium “Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan/Orascom”, as well as designs for the manufacture and supply of (23) trains for the stage by the Japanese company “Mitsubishi Corporation”, which is distinguished by its compliance with the latest international specifications. For the first time in metro projects, screen doors were installed on the platforms to achieve the highest levels of safety, and the implementation rate for this part has reached.
The Minister of Transport explained that the first phase of the fourth line of the metro, which is being implemented, will exchange passenger transport services with the second line of the metro at Giza Station and with the first line of the metro at King Al-Saleh Station, and that with the implementation of the second phase of it, connectivity with New Cairo will be achieved and service will be exchanged with the sixth line of the metro, which is being studied. At the Mazraa El-Ayoun station.
