Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno, appealed to the public, especially those going on the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays, to return to wearing masks.

Sandiaga said Singapore was facing an increase in Covid-19 cases. In this regard, Sandi said that his party had taken precautions, one of which was coordinating with the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI).

“We appeal to the public to travel to Indonesia because, like in Singapore and other destinations, there have been several cases of disease,” said Sandi in a media meeting at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Jakarta, Monday (4/12/2023).

“One of them is Singapore, where Covid-19 cases have doubled,” added Sandi.

Thus, Sandi advised the public to return to using masks to maintain health. Moreover, he had seen a number of people experiencing coughs in the middle of the changing seasons and before the Christmas holiday.

“Earlier at several meetings, I thought this was anecdotal, it had increased threefold. So, there’s no harm in us wearing masks again,” said Sandi. “Earlier, on the plane I was returning from Palu, there were lots of people coughing. So, be careful. Be alert,” he stressed.

Previously, the Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) revealed that in the period 19-25 November 2023, Covid-19 cases in Singapore doubled, namely 22,094 cases. Meanwhile, the dominant variant is Omicron EG.5 or Eris and. HK derivative.3

According to MOH, one of the factors driving the recent increase in Covid-19 cases is the year-end travel season and the population’s declining immunity.

In this regard, Sandiaga said that Indonesia would not close tourist visits from the Lion Country.

“We are not there yet. We continue to coordinate with the Indonesian Ministry of Health. We will ensure that Indonesia tourism is open for business for this Nataru. “We will protect and prioritize health aspects,” stressed Sandi
