Minister of the Interior announces greater patrols in schools and a tough line against criminal gangs

After the attack against the Nuestra Señora de Monserrat educational center, the Minister of the Interior, Walter Ortiz Acosta, announced that a tough policy will be applied against criminals and criminal gangs throughout the country in order to counteract crime.

During his visit to the campus, the head of the Interior reported that security measures are being adopted to protect schoolchildren in the area, such as reinforcing patrols, with the support of the Serenazgo, and a greater police presence.

“We have spoken with the mayor and we will give full support to this educational center and to all the others, as well as to the teachers, parents and all neighbors. The message is to feel calm, because we are intensifying the measures,” he stressed.

As is known, unknown individuals detonated an explosive charge against said campus on the night of Wednesday, April 10, located at the intersection of Carlos Izaguirre and Universitaria avenues. The shock wave destroyed the iron gate of the educational institution and some windows were affected.

For security reasons, campus authorities suspended classes until Friday the 12th while the police complete their investigations. It is not ruled out that the owner of the school chain is being extorted for payment of fees.
