Minister of Research and Technology: See the potential for a recession, just waiting for the announcement … page all

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Minister of Research and Technology (Menristek) Bambang Brodjonegoro said Indonesia’s potential was experiencing recession the economy is increasingly visible.

According to him, the hope of returning to normal before the Covid-19 pandemic is still far away and takes a long time.

In Indonesia, the pandemic is still increasing since it was announced at the end of March.

“Today, we are experiencing disruption, we can see the potential for a recession. We are just waiting for the BPS announcement regarding economic performance in the third quarter,” said Bambang in the West Java Economic Society webinar, Wednesday (23/9/2020).

According to Bambang, economic actors must adapt to new habits (new normal) in order to survive during a pandemic, as well as prepare a strong foundation for economic recovery.

Instead of returning to normal conditions before the Covid-19, Bambang suggested to be prepared for different conditions in the future, by implementing a minimal contact economy (less contact economy).

“We have to be good at reading new normal, do not read as back to the past. It seems that hopes of a back to the past are taking a long time. We change to back to the future, “he said.

The low-contact economy, said Bambang, was part of the digital transformation that was accelerated due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This low-contact economy is a combination of economic activities that are ongoing but still pay attention health protocol.

This low-contact economy utilizes digital means in every business pattern, such as e-commerce. For this reason, he hopes that business people will be able to adapt to adopting digital means.

“So the solution is an economy of minimal contact characterized by hyper-contact between humans through technology,” he concluded.

Information alone, the low-contact economy is able to have several advantages, namely revitalizing the development of MSMEs, using resources closer to the supply chain, encouraging financial transparency, and better tax revenue because they are digitally recorded.

This low-contact economy also prevents farmers from experiencing losses because they cut the distribution chain. In the future, the harvested commodities will no longer go through intermediaries, but will be directly marketed to buyers.
