JAKARTA – Minister of Religion (Minister of ReligionYaqut Cholil Qoumas claimed that the halal label policy issued by the Ministry of Religion’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) no longer belongs to the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
Yaqut said that after some time, the public would no longer recognize the halal label issued by the MUI. That’s because this is no longer the case in Indonesia.
“In the future, gradually the halal label issued by MUI will be declared no longer valid,” said Yaqut in his instagram account @gusyaqut, Saturday (12/3/2022).
According to him, this refers to the decision of the law regarding halal certification which needs to be held by the government, not community organizations (Ormas).
“Halal certification, as stipulated in the law, is held by the government, no longer mass organizations,” he said.
Previously, the Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religion, Muhammad Aqil Irham, officially ratified the new halal label. According to him, the label will gradually be implemented nationally.
Aqil said that the determination of the label was a mandate from the 1945 Constitution, in particular Article 37 of Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning guarantees for halal products.
