The Minister of Public Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyadh, presented the health feasibility of adopting digital systems in the Ministry of Public Health and future steps to develop digital transformation in the field of health, during a press conference at the Higher Institute of Business – ESA, in the presence of the director of the institute, Maxence Dew.
Al-Abyadh indicated, during the conference, that “the forum aims to bring together experts in technology with parties concerned with the health sector, including doctors, nurses, activists in associations that care for patients, in addition to representatives of international donor agencies, with the aim of developing a unified vision and identifying all possible ways to use technology in the health sector, including: It helps advance the digital transformation.”
He pointed out that “the use of technology is not new to the health sector,” adding that “the digital programs and systems that the Ministry of Public Health has begun to adopt have contributed to improving its performance and achieving positive, tangible and reliable results to achieve more.”
He stressed that “digital transformation provides accurate statistics and information about medication and patients’ real needs, and the Ministry will display this information on its website as soon as it is completed.”
Al-Abyadh added, “The Ministry will start a new project next summer represented by the digital health card for about 170,000 (one hundred and seventy thousand) patients in primary care centers, which constitutes a beginning for these cards to include later all the Lebanese people and be part of the comprehensive health coverage that is needed in an initial form.” As is well known, financing is secured.
He stressed that “the current priorities of the Ministry of Public Health are medicine, hospitalization and the epidemic,” noting that “the ministry is working on digital programs that provide solutions to these three issues.”
