The Minister of National Education was returning from an already hectic visit to Lyon. He was momentarily stuck in his train before taking an exit away from the protesters.
Complicated day for Pap Ndiaye. Visiting Lyon on Monday, the Minister of National Education saw his program disrupted by the presence of demonstrators at the National Higher Institute of Teaching and Education (INSPE), where he was expected.
Back in Paris, other demonstrators were present to welcome the minister, as evidenced by images filmed by the journalist Clément Lanot present on the spot. Several dozen people welcomed the minister’s arrival at the Gare de Lyon with pans and songs.
The minister was momentarily stuck on his train as law enforcement was on hand to block those present. He was then able to get out, under police escort, through an exit far from where the demonstrators were, according to our colleagues.
Lyon visit disrupted
Earlier in the day, demonstrators tried to force one of the INSPE gates in Lyon, where Pap Ndiaye was to go.
“My visit to INSPE was postponed, since the sequences were reversed,” said the minister at the microphone of BFMTV. “I started with the rectorate, and I will then continue on the side of the INSPE. This small setback, ultimately, does not change anything on the merits.”
For its part, the majority ensures that opposition to the pension reform “will not prevent” ministerial visits.
