Jakarta: The potential for HIV-AIDS infection is still high in the workplace. This can be seen from the number of cases of HIV-AIDS increased significantly. Most of the infected people are in their productive age.
The Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah sees that this problem is no longer a health problem, but also poses a risk to socio-economic welfare, especially in the employment sector.
“We know that workers have a major role in driving the wheels of economic development by ensuring that production activities continue. However, workers are also a group in our society that is vulnerable to transmission of Covid-19 and HIV-AIDS,” said Ida, quoted in a written statement, Wednesday. , June 9th.

In addressing this issue, the Minister of Manpower Ida invited ASEAN-OSNET to jointly build a strong commitment to the implementation of HIV-AIDS prevention and control programs in the workplace. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This disease prevention and control program in the workplace must be implemented properly to ensure the safety and health of our workers, as well as business growth,” said Ida.
The Minister of Manpower Ida said this at the ASEAN Guidelines Development Workshop on HIV Counseling and Testing in the Workplace and the HIV-AIDS Prevention and Control Workshop in the Workplace During the Covid-19 Pandemic Period.
On that occasion, the Minister of Manpower Ida expressed his appreciation to Laos as the current Chair of ASEAN-OSHNET for its success in coordinating ASEAN-OSHNET activities and programs.
As Chair of the ASEAN Labor Ministers Meeting, he also encouraged ASEAN-OSHNET to productively and actively support the development of the ASEAN labor sector with activities to achieve the goals of the ASEAN Manpower Ministers’ Work Programme.
The Director General of Manpower Supervision and K3 Development, Hayani Rumondang, hopes that this workshop can formulate and share experiences on HIV-AIDS prevention and control measures during a pandemic.
According to Hayani, in order for HIV-AIDS prevention and control efforts to be implemented in the workplace, knowledge and understanding, as well as attitudes of all actors in the workplace, are needed.
Among the efforts that can be done is counseling and testing HIV-AIDS in the workplace (Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) at the workplace).
“The Voluntary Counseling and Testing program in the workplace is very important in an effort to monitor the chain of HIV-AIDS transmission so that it does not expand in each ASEAN member country. For this reason, it is necessary to develop VCT at Workplace guidelines at the ASEAN level,” said Hayani.
