  • There is a way the chairman of KPKONPI Sotir Tsatsarov

Sotir Tsatsarov was born on September 28, 1966 in the city of Plovdiv. He completed his secondary education in and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev to be removed from office quickly. This was said in the program “In Focus” by the Minister of Justice Ivan Demerdzhiev.

In one case, the powers are entirely with the National Assembly, which can proceed with the dismissal of the chairman of KPONPI. This issue can be resolved easily, but it is a matter of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure. It can happen in a month, for sure. With Ivan Geshev, things are a bit more complicated, as a change of the Supreme Judicial Council is required. We have many such recommendations from the European Commission. They say that it is intolerable to continue not to resolve this issue. According to the Recovery and Sustainability Plan, the European Commission has shown that it wants Bulgaria to unconditionally fulfill the condition to create a regulation that would exercise control over the Prosecutor General, Demerdzhiev said.

I have over 20 signals concerning violations of the Prosecutor’s Office at the time when Geshev was either in the Special Prosecutor’s Office or was the Chief Prosecutor. They give the impression that he knew about the actions being taken. There are also direct signals against him for action or inaction, some of which, if confirmed, are even related to acts that can be treated as crimes, said the Minister of Justice.

Asked if he had already filed a lawsuit to remove the chief prosecutor, he replied: “No, because we are waiting for the ruling of the Constitutional Court and we are working on the request, which swells every day, because more and more signals are coming.”

Among the signals are those for influencing the course of criminal proceedings, as well as for the destruction of documents related to criminal proceedings. These signals have not been checked yet, but we are working on them, Ivan Demerdzhiev explained.

In response to a question, he said he would remain justice minister in a possible regular government if political parties consider him the man they need to implement judicial reforms. Whether I am someone or someone else, he must be a person who will monitor compliance with the law and must be able to stand up to everyone if the law is violated, said the Minister of Justice.

In my opinion, the reforms in the judiciary should take place in two phases, and in the final stage there should be a constitutional change, he added.
