Minister of Islamic Affairs Obligates Imams in Riyadh Mosques to Recite Najdi: Addressing Critics of the Decision

Al-Marsad newspaper: The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh, revealed the reasons for obliging imams in Riyadh mosques to recite Najdi, and responded to the critics of the decision.

Popular reading

He said during an interview with the “Fi Al-Sawra” program broadcast on the Rotana Khalijiya channel: “We will not make a decision unless many students of knowledge and imams insist on taking it, and the Najdi reading is the reading of our ancestors and scholars for many years and is famous and well-known and is recited in some countries.”

He continued: “Najdi reading is easy and almost disappeared, and it was circulated in the city of Riyadh to preserve it.”

Binding decision

In response to a question about the possibility of urging imams to recite Najdi instead of obligating it. The minister said: “Because not all imams are residents of Riyadh, and some of them can find it difficult to read, so whoever does not want to commit to this reading can move to any other mosque close to Riyadh.”

Responding to critics

In response to critics of the decision and that it raises strife, the minister said: “There are no strife, because strife occurs in a certain dress or formation, but the Kingdom has one uniform and one nation and we do not differ.”
