Minister of Interior Combats New Forms of Crime and Organized Crime

The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, said that from his portfolio they are fighting new forms of “crime and organized crime”, in reference to the gang of Colombians who offered loans illegally in Tacuarembó.

Days ago, the Justice of this department charged 18 Colombians and one Venezuelan for participating in an organized network that granted irregular loans, with interest rates higher than those set by the Central Bank, and intimidated those who fell behind with payments.

“How is it that these Colombians who come as people who emigrate to work here come with capital to be able to lend? Where does the money come from?“Heber asked himself in a press conference recorded by Subrayado (Channel 10).

“In Tacuarembó there are (almost) 20 Colombians imprisoned, there is human trafficking, we are facing new things that appear in crime and organized crime,” added the leader.

The minister stated that “you come here to work, you don’t come to commit crimes,” regarding the situation of the 19 foreigners who are accused and who received 18 raids as part of Operation Parce. In that operation last Friday, September 29, they also detained “25 people (of 40 initially involved)”, the leadership informs.

According to Heber, the ministry is “fighting” and assured that it has the “support of the Prosecutor’s Office.”

“Colombians who have acted in other parts of America start by making solutions for people who cannot easily access credit and then end up with acts of violence or robbing the homes of merchants who only did work,” the minister concluded.
