This Wednesday morning, the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, visited the Talca Basic School to get to know this establishment and, in a special way, one of her students, Monserrat Bustos, from fourth year C, and all her classmates who make up the group of “environmental shapers”.
This story began in 2022, when Monserrat, along with her classmates in the Language and Communication subject, decided to send a letter to the Minister of Health asking her to give them some trees, such as the peumo. This is how this letter reaches the hands of the minister and she responds to them, in her own handwriting, pointing out, among other things, that in the course of this year she will come to meet her and bring her the requested trees.
The Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, referred to this activity and indicated that “for me, as Minister of Health, it is a very pleasant activity, being able to come to this school from where I had received a letter from Monserrat and Isabel. Letter that I answered them and we carried out the management to be able to obtain these trees ”. In addition, she added: “I think this is a nice opportunity to highlight the links between education and health. Improving the education of the population directly results in a better level of health, and this is directly understood when one sees the letter from Monserrat, where she argues that trees are needed for a better health of the planet, but also to improve health from all of us”.
One of the students who managed to send a letter to the minister was Monserrat Bustos, who in relation to this visit, pointed out: “it was very minister for the minister to answer my letter and, reading it, I knew that he was coming and together with my colleagues we were waiting for his visit (…) our request was that he bring us some peumos as a gift so that we could plant them, since one of their characteristics is that their roots grow downwards and are used to plant them on the sidewalks, squares and streets, because their roots will not damage them or the water pipes”.
For her part, the director of the Talca Basic School, Maritza Varela, indicated that “we were quite surprised that a high authority of the republic took the time to read the letter from a little girl, and was able to respond to it on her own behalf. hand and letter. Therefore, we are very happy and grateful for this instance and for Minister Aguilera’s visit to our school.”
This activity also had the participation of the Maule Health Seremi, Gloria Icaza; and Marta Caro, director of the Maule Health Service, among other local authorities, as well as management teams and teachers from the host educational establishment.
