Minister of Health Visits Hospital After Stabbing Attack on Nurses

The Minister of Health went to the Reims University Hospital Center where two women were seriously stabbed on Monday by a man who appeared to be suffering from “severe disorders”. The situation remains “extremely critical and delicate”, according to François Braun.

“Complete astonishment.” Arrived at the Reims University Hospital in the evening, the Minister of Health François Braun spoke with the nursing staff of the hospital while a 37-year-old nurse and a 56-year-old medical secretary were stabbed more early Monday.

In the wake of the attack, the Reims prosecutor announced that a 59-year-old man had been arrested and that the nurse’s vital prognosis was at stake.

“The situation remains extremely critical and delicate, revealed to the press François Braun. One of them left the operating room and is in the recovery room. The other is still supported by multiple surgeons.”

A man suffering from “severe disorders”

An investigation for attempted assassination was opened and entrusted to the central police station in Reims. The 59-year-old Rémois who “brutally and violently attacked” the two women, according to the minister, had previously been indicted “for acts of aggravated violence”, we learned from the prosecutor.

He “had benefited in June 2022 from a dismissal order for criminal irresponsibility, and this case was soon to be referred to the investigating chamber of the Reims Court of Appeal to rule on the security measures likely to be taken”.

Still according to the prosecutor, the respondent seems to “suffer from severe disorders” and “acted without apparent motive”.

The announcement of a meeting around the minister at the end of the week

François Braun then met the staff of the hospital center, some of whom had to rescue their own colleagues on the spot.

“The state of mind is in complete amazement with regard to the violence of what has just happened”, confided the minister.

While the feeling of insecurity among caregivers has been growing lately, François Braun has announced that a meeting will be held on this subject in the coming days.

“I will convene a committee before the end of the week with all the stakeholders to act as quickly as possible, to guarantee the safety of the nursing staff as much as possible,” he assured.
