Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin also spoke out about the United States’ plan to revoke the COVID-19 emergency status on May 11. According to him, a similar plan is being reviewed and being discussed together.

Budi also said that the government is communicating with a number of countries that have lifted the COVID-19 emergency status, including Japan.

“We already have a plan too, we have reported it to the President, but the WHO still has a pandemic status,” said the Minister of Health when met in the South Jakarta area (31/1/2023).

“But not only the US, Japan has also declared, we coordinated with them earlier, and Japan too, if I’m not mistaken, the month of May,” he continued.

Separately, the Head of the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s Communication Bureau Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi said that currently Indonesia is in the transition phase of the COVID-19 pandemic towards endemic. Masks are no longer mandatory, but the government still advises them to wear them in closed rooms and open spaces with dense crowds.

It is also planned that the COVID-19 vaccine will be paid for in the future, with a price of around IDR 150,000 and will be available from pharmacies to health facilities. Regarding the mechanism, it is still in the discussion stage.
