The Minister of Health, José Miñones, has highlighted the importance of guaranteeing the production of vaccines in Spain to deal with possible emergencies in the future. This was stated during his visit to the Zendal Group facilities in O Porriño (Pontevedra), to which he thanked for his involvement during the pandemic and congratulated him on his innovation and cutting-edge work.
This Spanish biopharmaceutical company has just been designated by the European Union to guarantee the vaccine production capacity in Europe in case of future health emergencies.
During his visit to the facility, the minister was accompanied by the president of the Zendal group, Pedro Fernández Puentes, the CEO, Andrés Fernández Álvarez-Santullano, the CEO of Biofabri (Zendal Group) and the general director of the group, Vanesa Andrade. The Government sub-delegate in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, has also attended.
“It is a source of pride for our country to have entrepreneurs such as the Zendal Group”, the minister assessed, and stressed that “vaccines are safe and save lives” as has been demonstrated in the vaccination against COVID, of which Spain has been an example worldwide.
Miñones has highlighted the importance of vaccination at all ages. “We cannot associate vaccines only at the earliest ages, the vaccination process is a process that accompanies the person throughout their life project,” she stated.
In this sense, the latest update of the vaccination schedule in our country has had the inclusion of vaccines for the adult population, with such clear examples as vaccination against Herpes Zoster.
The minister has advanced that the Health and Climate Change Observatory, whose creation was approved yesterday by the Minister councilwill serve to face and observe future challenges related to health and the environment.
In addition, it has stressed the need to maintain and strengthen the GAVI vaccine donation system to maintain Spain’s leadership position, which is among the five countries in the world that donate the most doses.
