Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš to Participate in EU Meetings on Israel, Ukraine, and Central Asia

On October 23 and 24, 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš will participate in the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council of the European Union (EU), which will be held in Luxembourg.

On October 23, the EU Foreign Affairs Council will focus on the situation in Israel and the Middle East region. It is also planned to decide on further support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and to discuss current events in Armenia and Azerbaijan.

On the other hand, the meeting of the EU-Central Asian foreign ministers, in which the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will participate, is expected to discuss EU-Central Asian relations, the regional agenda and international current affairs. At the meeting, it is planned to adopt the “Road Map” for deepening the relations between the EU and Central Asia.

A meeting of the General Affairs Council will take place on October 24, where the foreign ministers will discuss the future development of Europe, the situation of the rule of law in the EU and prepare the meeting of the European Council on October 26 and 27.

In addition, the ministers will discuss the European Commission’s new proposal in the field of demography and will hear current information about Spain’s proposal to expand the EU’s official language regime.
