Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš to Participate in EU Council Meetings in Brussels; Discussions on Ukraine, Belarus, and US Relations Planned

On March 18 and 19, 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš will participate in the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council of the European Union (EU), which will be held in Brussels.

On March 18, at the EU Foreign Affairs Council, ministers are scheduled to hold discussions on EU support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s full-scale war of aggression, as well as on Belarus and current events in the Middle East region. An informal exchange of views with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is also planned in the format of a video conference (Antony Blinken).

A meeting of the General Affairs Council will be held on March 19, during which the ministers will prepare for the European Council meeting on March 21 and 22, as well as discuss the future of Europe. On the other hand, during the annual European Semester process, the coordination of recommendations for the Eurozone is planned.
