Minister of Energy Discusses Pertalite Elimination in Response to Rising Energy Subsidies

Jakarta

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif opened his voice in response to the discourse on eliminating this type of fuel Pertalite in 2024. The discourse of eliminating Pertalite in 2024 emerged in August 2023.

At that time, PT Pertamina (Persero) stated that in 2024 it would only sell three types of fuel and there would be no Pertalite in the fuel it sold.

Regarding the discourse on eliminating Pertalite, Arifin said that his party would not have a problem with this if Pertamina could produce the product without any additional burden.

“Yes, if it can be provided without any additional burden, that’s fine,” he said at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Central Jakarta, Monday (15/1/2024).

In notes detikcomPertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati once explained that his party had implemented the Blue Sky Program where in the first stage the subsidized fuel from RON 88 became RON 90.

“We are continuing this in accordance with the plan for the second phase of the Blue Sky Program where we will increase subsidized fuel from RON 90 to RON 92,” he said at Commission VII Jakarta, last Wednesday (30/8/2023).

He said this was in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry where the minimum fuel in circulation was RON 91.

“This is very appropriate, one aspect of the environment is reducing carbon emissions, secondly we can fulfill the mandatory bioethanol bioenergy requirement, thirdly we can reduce gasoline imports,” he said.

On that occasion, he asked for support from Commission VII because next year or 2024 his party will release the Pertamax Green 92 product.

“So next year there will only be three products, the first is Pertamax Green 92 by mixing RON 90 with 7% ethanol, we call it e7, the second is Pertamax Green 95 mixing Pertamax with 8% ethanol, the third is Pertamax Turbo,” he said.

Energy Subsidies Collapsed

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that the realization of energy subsidies in 2023 reached IDR 159.6 trillion. The subsidies consist of fuel and LPG subsidies of IDR 95.6 trillion, and electricity subsidies of IDR 64 trillion.

From the data presented, the realization of energy subsidies is far above the 2023 target of IDR 145.3 trillion.

“For 2023, the realization of fuel and LPG will reach IDR 95.6 trillion, and then for electricity it will reach IDR 64 trillion,” said Arifin.

In 2024, his party is targeting energy subsidies of IDR 186.9 trillion, consisting of fuel and LPG subsidies of IDR 113.3 trillion, as well as electricity subsidies of IDR 73.6 trillion. The subsidy target in 2024 has been set higher in anticipation of rising oil raw material prices and demand.

“This of course anticipates the price of crude oil raw materials and demand which also increased quite a bit,” he said.
