Minister of Education, on the student vaccination form: I take this decision. It’s hard for me to understand why she’s being challenged

One week after the start of school, the authorities admit that we are bad at vaccinating students. Approximately 200,000 students, aged between 12 and 19, have been immunized so far, announced the Minister of Education Sorin Câmpeanu. According to him, at the beginning of the school year, parents will receive a form in which they will answer the question of whether or not to vaccinate their children. For this, in each school there will be a person who will keep in touch with them. The Minister explained why this form is necessary.

The minister also said that it is possible that in the second half of October, the capital will reach the threshold of six COVID-19 infections per thousand inhabitants, at which time all schools will go online for ten days.

In his turn, the pediatrician Mihai Craiu said that the scientific studies published until the end of last year show that the risk of dying as a result of complications generated by the SARS-CoV-2 infection is very low in children.

Dr. Mihai Craiu, pediatrician

I believe that the most important message to be conveyed to parents at this time is that all epidemiological analyzes, including this prestigious European Journal of Academiaology, which evaluated scientific studies published by the end of last year on the impact of age on disease severity and evolution of the disease, say that the risk of dying from complications caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection is very low in children. This ratio of 2 to 100,000 at the age of 10 should be the central pillar of communication to parents. Yes, it is true, children can get infections. Yes, it is true that children can transmit the infection just like adults. Yes, it is true, they can infect their classmates, teachers or family, but in the well-known notorious conceptions there are a very small number of fatal developments.

Wearing a face mask is extremely important, the doctor added, adding that this reduces the burden of viral transmission. “If no one wears a mask, the risk of transmission is related to exposure, time of exposure. (…) If all persons wear the mask correctly as long as they are inside, there are a minority of people who could be infected, but they are so few that it is absolutely rational to have those recommendations to wear a mask. (…). the total lifting of any phenomena of distancing and wearing the mask inside led to a resurgence in the conditions of the Delta mutation, which is much more transmissible. “, the doctor explained, during the debate” The anti-COVID vaccine for children: how to protect children, once school starts? ”, organized on Monday by Save the Children Romania.
