The Minister of Education referred to the significant increase in CAE debtors.
On this Monday El Mercurio reported that For the first time since the creation of the State Guaranteed Credit (CAE), the number of debtors is a majority, reaching 54% in that condition at the end of 2023, almost double that of 2017 (29%).
Specifically, last year there were 540 thousand new debtors of the CAEaccording to information from the Ingresa Commission, a public entity that administers credits for higher education and which also indicated that the State has had to pay US$300 million to respond as collateral.
It is in this context that, during this Monday morning, the Minister of Education himself, Nicolas Cataldoin conversation with Mesa Central, referred to the situation and to eventual condonationcampaign promise of President Gabriel Boric.

Finally, he added that they are working together with the Ministry of Finance to create a new financing model; “The deadline that we set with Minister Marcel was to finally arrive before the budget discussion with a technical proposal, because this topic is difficult. The amount of resources involved is very large, especially the debts that are executed and that are with portfolio purchases by the state.”
