Minister of Education Announces Changes in Teacher Pay System

Russian Education Minister Olga Vasilyeva told RG about the planned changes in the teacher remuneration system. She emphasized that 70% of the wage fund should go to salaries, and 30% to various increases and bonuses.

Vasilyeva noted that there is a problem – the municipalities themselves decide how to charge bonuses and incentive payments. And the average salaries of teachers in the region indicated in the reports of the governors are formed due to the fact that teachers take one and a half rates and more.

Vasilyeva said that thanks to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, the Labor Code will be amended and a unified system of teacher remuneration will be introduced. And the basic guarantees will be spelled out in federal law.

The minister added that approximately 10% of teachers are lacking in Russian schools. Moreover, out of 1.5 million teachers, one in three is a pensioner. “Why not go? They’re afraid of working with children, they’re afraid of responsibility and burden, ”Vasilyeva answered the question of why there are so few young teachers in Russia.
