The Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Nicolás Grau, participated last Friday in the Pro-growth and employment Cabinet for the O’Higgins region led by the Presidential Delegation and its regional cabinet, in order to advance growth, accelerate investment and generate more jobs. The event was also attended by the Undersecretaries of Transportation, Jorge Daza, and of Public Works, José Andrés Herrera.
The extensive work day brought together not only national and local authorities, but also representatives of the private world, -among them the Chilean Chamber of Construction and Codelco Chile El Teniente Division-, since the objective of this working group is being able to unblock investment projects that are being executed or that need to materialize as soon as possible. On the occasion, according to the authorities, plans were reviewed in the areas of Health, public works, real estate and mainly energy. That is why owners of the Pelequén Solar Park projects, the New Codegua Sectioning Substation, the Andino Oeste II and Alcones photovoltaic parks, the Molinos del Abra 2 housing project, the New Codelco Mine Level and the New Line 2 also attended. ×200 KV Candelaria, among others.
“This cabinet’s main focus is to accelerate public and private investment, of projects, small and large, so that 2024, which will be a year of growth, is a year with the greatest possible growth and with the greatest job creation.” “, expressed the national head of Economy.
Specifically, “we have reviewed public investment projects and other private investment projects, we have seen each of their details and seen what type of coordination is required in the public sector to accelerate the materialization of these projects, how to advance particularly in the sectoral permits,” Grau added.
In his opinion, the challenges of some projects have been recognized, they have set clear dates on which these will advance, “so we can say that this has been a meeting that will accelerate investment in the O’Higgins region, streamlining the projects. This has already worked for us in other regions. It is a challenge of public-private coordination to move this forward, reviewing each investment project and managing to unblock them.”
While, for the presidential delegate, Fabio López, this public-private cabinet is made to promote and grow the economy. “More than 99 percent of the works carried out by the State through its national budget are also carried out with private companies, so it is vital to unblock the knots identified in the projects, especially the largest ones, in order to move forward” . In his opinion, all these investment plans impact the infrastructure and in their execution they will leverage the regional economy by demanding employment.
PUBLIC WORKS AND TRANSPORTATION
These meetings allow for internal coordination between the different authorities to make the investment proposals viable, said the Undersecretary of Transportation, Jorge Daza. As the Ministry of Transportation, “it allows us to advance projects that are important to us in full coordination with the seremias and give them the importance that these have for the citizens, which are so needed.”
For his part, the Undersecretary of Public Works, José Herrera, contributed that this space makes it possible to resolve “issues that are affecting the performance of investments. Just to give you the assessment, the public investment of this ministry in the O’Higgins region exceeds 170 billion pesos, with more than 150 projects, more than 333 contracts and for us it is relevant to identify the bottlenecks and resolve them” . And he highlighted that the Ministry of Public Works this year exceeded what was contributed in 2023 by 60 percent, so they hope that this “will be reflected in the well-being of the citizens.”
