The Minister of Defense, Walter Enrique Astudillo Chávez, and the head of the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci), Juan Carlos Urcariegui Reyes, arrived in Arequipa, to supervise the actions in response to emergencies carried out by both the Decentralized Directorate of Indeci (DDI) as by the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER).
The COER coordinator and regional manager of Disaster Risks, Juan Carlos Burga, informed the minister that in La Unión huaicos have occurred since February in the districts of Alca, Puyca, Tomepampa and Huaycanotas; In addition, landslides occurred in the Charcana district due to intense rainfall.
The regional authority indicated that the COER Arequipa continues to monitor dangers, emergencies and disasters that could continue to occur as a result of the rains.
Likewise, the Minister of Defense and the head of Indeci carried out an overflight over the affected areas of the Cotahuasi River and broken activities in the jurisdictions of Tomepampa, Huaynacotas and Alca. Likewise, the minister supervised the interventions carried out by machinery in the affected areas.
After flying over, Walter Astudillo and the delegation landed in Cotahuasi to hold a round of dialogue with 11 district mayors of the La Unión province and representatives of civil society in the area.
“I am going to be in charge of coordinating with other sectors following the Government’s multi-sector strategy to meet all demands. I congratulate the local authorities because they show a real commitment to the people,” said the minister.
