Jakarta –
Minister of Defense (Menhan) English Ben Wallace officially resigns from office, clearing way for Prime Minister (PM) Rishi Sunak to announce a replacement.
Reported by the media The TelegraphThursday (31/8/2023), Wallace (53) said in his resignation letter to PM Sunak that it was “an honor to serve alongside the men and women in the armed forces and intelligence services who sacrifice so much for our security”.
In his letter, Wallace told Sunak: “After much deliberation, I have come to the decision to ask that I be allowed to step down. I won my seat in 2005 and after many years it is time for me to invest in the parts of life that I have lost.” I ignore it, and to look for new opportunities.”
“Thank you for your support and friendship. You and the Government will continue to have my support,” Wallace added in his resignation letter.
Earlier in July, Wallace had conveyed his intention to step down as Minister of Defense during the next cabinet reshuffle. Reported BBChe told the Sunday Times he would not run in the next general election, but refused to resign “prematurely” and trigger a by-election.
Wallace served as Secretary of Defense under three prime ministers and played a key role in Britain’s response to the war in Ukraine.
