The new prizes will be organized by Literature Flanders, formerly known as the Flemish Literature Fund. This is a Flemish public institution that supports the literature sector in Flanders with subsidies for authors, translators, publishers and organizers.
The intention is that the new prize will be awarded annually in February from 2022 and can stand alongside the major Dutch literature prizes. “I am convinced that such a major literary prize will give a huge boost to the book sector,” says Jambon. Book fair top woman Vé Bobelyn responded with satisfaction. “This is very important for the book trade, everyone in the industry is very excited about it,” she says. The initiative is part of the recovery plan of the Flemish government for the cultural sector.
