Minister of Budget and Public Accounts evaluates state of department operations during field visit

In the company of his advisers and other executives of his cabinet, Ludovic Ngatsé began his rounds at the general direction of budgetary control. With 342 agents spread over eight departments, it has three directors, one of whom has exercised his rights to retirement and the other has died.

Then, the minister and his retinue went to the budget directorate, the largest administration in the department. There, Ludovic Ngatsé visited all of the seven services housed there, including payroll. More plethoric than the first, the general direction of the budget works with many shortcomings.

From there, the ministerial delegation headed for the general management of the public portfolio and that of the control of public contracts. Like the first two directions, these also work with means at hand.

At the end of his field visit, the Minister of the Budget, Public Accounts and Public Portfolio noted that the staff is dedicated to the task but is confronted with a glaring shortage likely to encroach on the expected performance. However, he promised to provide appropriate solutions to enable his employees to work in optimal conditions.

« The objective of our visit is to make the physical inventory of the structures under our supervision in order to ensure the conditions in which our employees work. I met executives and agents assigned to the task, but who work in difficult conditions, which has real consequences on the quality of expenditure and mobilization of resources. A major effort must be made to improve the working conditions of agents ,” stressed Ludovic Ngatsé.

Among the more urgent solutions, the Minister is betting on the completion of the annex building of the Ministry of Finance, work on which has been halted for many months. Its commissioning, he said, will relieve the overcrowding in his department and allow executives and agents to work in more convenient conditions for better performance. He promised to plead to whom it may concern that funds be released to complete the project.
