Minister of Agriculture Ukraine Mykola Solsky Arrested for Alleged Corruption – Kyiv Corruption Scandal Unfolds

Minister of Agriculture UkraineMykola Solsky, arrested after being officially named as a suspect in investigation into alleged corruption millions of American dollars. Solsky has resigned after being caught in a corruption case.

As reported AFPFriday (26/4/2024), Kyiv authorities were devastated corruption scandal since the fall of the Soviet Union, has pledged to implement anti-corruption efforts as part of its bid to join the European Union bloc.

In the related corruption case, Solsky was accused of illegally taking land when he was still the director of a large agricultural company and a member of the Ukrainian parliament. It is estimated that the value of the land is more than US $ 7 million or equal to 113.5 billion.

Solsky’s arrest was announced by Ukrainian prosecutors in a statement Friday (26/4) local time.

An anti-corruption court in Ukraine ordered Solsky to be detained until June 24 while their investigation into the case continues.

He was ordered held on bail set by the court at 75.7 million Ukrainian Hryvnia, or equivalent to IDR 30.9 billion.

Earlier this week, Solsky resigned from his position as Minister of Agriculture. He also promised to cooperate in the investigation of the case related to him.
