Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo’s Whereabouts Unknown as Deputy Minister Expresses Concern

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Harvick Hasnul Qolbi said that his party is currently missing news or lost contact with the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

According to Harvick, his party continues to search for Minister Syahrul’s whereabouts.

“That’s right. So to this day we continue to look for the Minister’s whereabouts because up to this moment we have had no news regarding the Minister’s whereabouts until today,” said Harvick at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (3/10/2023).

Minister Syahrul is in the public spotlight because recently his official residence was searched by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Harvick said that the last information he received was that Minister Syahrul was in Spain.

At that time, Minister Syahrul was with a number of echelon officials from the Ministry of Agriculture.

These echelon officials are taking part in Minister Syahrul’s working visit to the country.

However, according to Harvick, in the end the group separated from Minister Syahrul.

“Echelon I was accompanied by three people, there was also echelon II who took part in the Minister’s working visit, and there were several staff,” said Harvick.

“It’s up to each of us to return to our homeland because maybe tickets are also limited. In the end, we’re separated,” he said.

When asked whether there was any indication that Minister Syahrul had run away from the case currently being handled by the KPK, Harvick emphasized that no.

“Well, God willing, no. Hopefully we will pray together so that it can be finished. God willing,” tutur Harvick.

He admitted that he last communicated with Minister Syahril before his visit to Spain.

Harvick also does not currently know where the minister from the Nasdem Party is.

“We don’t know our final position yet. Not yet. There has been no contact at all,” he said.

“It seems that the government, of course the agency responsible for this matter, may have started looking for the position of our Minister,” said Harvick.

The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) is currently investigating allegations of corruption within the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) searched Syahrul’s official residence in the ministerial housing complex, Widya Candra, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Thursday (28/9/2023).

During this search, anti-corruption agency investigators seized tens of billions of rupiah and foreign currency.

Apart from the money, investigators found and confiscated 12 firearms.

Even though the alleged corruption case within the Ministry of Agriculture has moved to the investigation stage, the Corruption Eradication Committee has not yet revealed the identities of the suspects.

“At the Corruption Eradication Commission there is an SOP (standard operating procedure), in the investigation process someone will definitely be named a suspect,” said KPK Institutional and Enforcement Spokesperson Ali Fikri in a press conference at the KPK Building, South Jakarta, Friday (29/9/2023).

Meanwhile, when his official residence was searched, Syahrul Yasin Limpo was said to be in Rome, Italy.

In a post on his official Instagram account, Syahrul Yasin Limpo said he was in Rome, Italy, to attend the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation forum held by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization).

“In this meeting, I invite all countries to strengthen cooperation in overcoming various problems in the food sector. Because this is a strategic sector that can have a broad impact,” he wrote on the @syasinlimpo account on Tuesday (26/9/2023).

Syahrul Yasin Limpo is also still posting about his presence at the forum initiated by FAO a day later or on Wednesday (27/9/2023).
