Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said the Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo already has the status of a corruption suspect.
Mahfud admitted that he had received this information for a long time from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). However, he was reluctant to reveal details regarding the determination of this status.
“That he is a suspect, yes, I have received the information. In fact, since the exposure, I have known the suspect for a long time, but officially the suspect has been released,” said Mahfud at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday (4/10).
Regarding Syahrul’s whereabouts, Mahfud admitted that he did not know. He is sure that Syahrul did not just disappear.
Mahfud was also reluctant to speculate that Syahrul was avoiding the legal process. He chose to observe the ongoing process.
“No, not yet, I don’t suspect (Syahrul is avoiding the legal process) because this can only be suspected if the authorities have said DPO (wanted list) by the authorities. This is not yet a DPO. We are waiting for the information,” he said.
Previously, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo was reportedly a suspect in a corruption case. This is known from leaks provided by sources CNNIndonesia.com.
Syahrul has undergone an investigation at the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) regarding a corruption case at the Ministry of Agriculture. Plt. Corruption Eradication Commission Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu said the Corruption Eradication Commission was currently investigating three clusters of suspected corruption within the Ministry of Agriculture.
In the midst of this case, Syahrul was said to be missing. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Harvick Hasnul Qolbi said that Syahrul had lost contact since his working visit to Europe.
“To this day we continue to look for the Minister’s whereabouts because up to this moment we have had no news regarding the Minister’s whereabouts until today,” said Syahrul at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday (3/10).
