For the first time, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Andrés Alencastre, received the members of the Agrarian Commission of Congress at the ministerial headquarters to publicize the actions of the sector in the provision of fertilizers to small farmers and to ensure the agricultural campaign 2022-2023.
The minister specified that the objective of his management is to achieve coordinated work and consensus between the Executive and Legislative Powers to benefit national agriculture.
In his presentation, Alencastre stated that with the 348 million soles assigned by Emergency Decree, more than 73,000 tons of urea can be purchased to serve small producers who manage less than five hectares of crops.
He also reported that the first shipment of urea should arrive in Peru in the second half of July.
In addition, the head of Midagri stated that, to meet the requirements of the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign, not only are synthetic fertilizers such as urea available, but there is also a range of alternatives, such as guano from the island and organic fertilizers, to guarantee the fertilization of crops in the coming months.
Finally, the head of MIDAGRI confirmed that, with the first batches of nitrogenous fertilizers, priority will be given to producers with agricultural units of less than five hectares, which involve the main crops (potatoes, corn, rice and coffee), and who are associated with feeding the population and that his work at the head of the Ministry seeks to structure a management with a territorial approach, which supposes an intergovernmental articulation and a bottom-up relationship, where the protagonists are the territorially located producer organizations themselves.
