Minister of Agriculture Call Central African Pig Fever Vaccine Tested

Minister of Agriculture has denied that research related to the African Pig Fever vaccine is called not working.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo said the African Swine Fever (ASF) preventive vaccine or virus African Pig Fever developed by the Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (Balitbangtan) is being trialled. The statement was in response to criticism from the House of Representatives Commission IV Chairman from the PDIP faction Sudin who requested that the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) prioritize the Arika Pig Fever vaccine which is still endemic in the North Sumatra region.

“About swine flu, it’s not right to say our research nope Street. “These vaccines have been tested in the field,” Syahrul said at a Joint Working Meeting with the DPR’s Commission IV in Jakarta, Tuesday (7/7).

The same thing was stated by the Head of the Veterinary Center, Kementan, Indi Dharmayanti. He said research into the discovery of the vaccine is still being conducted between Balitbangtan and the Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health (PKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to him, Balitbangtan did not forget the main tasks and functions of the institute, one of which was livestock that became part of food security. “We are still working on vaccines for ASF, in collaboration with the Directorate General of PKH, because this vaccine is indeed difficult to grow here, but we have a direction there. So we do not forget our main duty,” said Indi.

Previously, the Chairperson of the DPR’s Commission IV Sudin appreciated the innovation of the Agency for Agricultural Research, which is an aromatherapy necklace made from eucalyptus plants which is said to be able to kill the corona virus. Nevertheless he considered that Ministry of Agriculture it should be able to carry out its tasks, principles and functions first, one of which is the African Pig Fever virus which has not yet been found to prevent the vaccine.

“The most important task now for the country is how to find the African Swine virus vaccine. That is the most important first, maybe if we consume not much pork, but in other areas such as North Sumatra it may be a lot,” Sudin said.

According to him, the findings of eucalyptus should not need to be widely publicized because they have not gone through clinical and preclinical trials. Because the research is not yet perfect, Sudin is worried that misunderstanding will occur in the community.
