Jakarta –
Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman opened his voice regarding rice imports. He hopes that rice imports can be stopped in the next three years in line with the creation of food self-sufficiency.
“No, not next year (stop imports). We will try to do it in the next 2-3 years. In 2-3 years we will return to stable self-sufficiency,” said Amran at the Ministry of Agriculture, Wednesday (25/10/2023).
According to Amran, the current focus is increasing the production of food crops, namely rice and corn. So it can slowly reduce imports.

For information, rice imports will reach a total of 3.5 million tons in 2023. In detail, 2 million tons plus 1.5 million tons for the end of this year. The government imports to fill stocks in government rice reserves (CBP) and in preparation for supplies during the general elections (election) and Eid 2024.
