Re-elected for a third term at the head of the town of Odienné, Minister Nassénéba Touré and her Town Council have reaffirmed their commitment to the development of health and education infrastructures in the region. On Saturday April 20, 2024, she established several infrastructures aimed at strengthening the education and health sector of the city.
In the “Yankafissa” area, a new primary school consisting of six (6) buildings, an office and two toilets was established. In addition, donations of six (6) classrooms and four (4) toilets were made to EPP Habitat and Groupe Scolaire École 2, as well as the construction of eight (8) buildings, four toilets (4) and canteen that can be used. EPP Campus can accommodate up to 150 students. The total investment for these educational infrastructures amounts to 75,173,628 CFA francs, reflecting the city’s commitment to educational development.
Madam Mayor confirmed that education is an essential priority for the town council, aiming to improve the educational environment for teachers and students, thus promoting education for all.
“The aim of the town council is to create 70 classrooms in Odiénné over 5 years, to make the educational environment suitable for teachers and students and allow all levels of society to benefit from the school,” she said.
She pointed out that great efforts have been made in Odienné, because in about ten years the school rate for young girls has increased from 37% to more than 50%. “There are more girls at school in Odienné than boys,” she said.
The Regional Director of Education and Literacy (DRENA), Yao Yao Firmin, thanked the Mayor and her City Council for these new infrastructures, highlighting the positive impact they have had on the quality of education and solving problems with -related to overstaffing in classrooms and the proliferation of informal schools in Odienné.
Along with education, health is a big priority for the city. According to the minister, health and education are vital pillars of the city’s development, and the city council is working to establish urban health centers in all the main areas of Odienné.
The Regional Health Director, Dr. Ablo Yao Alfred, highlighted the importance of this new health center for local populations, providing quality care and reducing the need to travel to distant medical facilities.
“This health center is a buffet of oxygen for the large area of hèrèmakono, where their numbers were forced to travel to the Chr, for prenatal consultations and simple analyses,” he explained.
