The Minister of Energy (in charge) Roberto Luque Nuques, has announced the declaration of emergency in the electricity sector in the face of the crisis that has led to blackouts throughout the country since this Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
Luque, who is head of Transportation and Public Works, said that They have worked from early hours with all the sectors involved, to understand all the variables that affect this crisiswhich he described as “result of several factors. Among them, administrative, climatic, planning and historical corruption issues”.
He said “there will be no easy solutions in the short term.”
Luque ordered the formation of a board of directors of the Regulation and Control Agency, “that has been dilating and that has prevented the timely contracting of emerging energy”.
He also highlighted that President Noboa ordered a 50% discount on electricity bills while the emergency lasts.
