Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan launched a discourse on increasing taxes on fuel oil (BBM) motor vehicles.
The increase in motor vehicle tax is an effort to shift fuel subsidy funds to public transportation.
“We also thought at a meeting that we were preparing, perhaps increasing taxes for non-electric motorbikes, so that later we could subsidize costs such as LRT or later high-speed trains. So in this way we try to look at equilibrium in the context of reducing water pollution. air),” said Luhut in his welcoming speech at the launch of BYD, in Jakarta, quoted from detikoto Thursday (18/1/2024).
Luhut explained that the government is reviewing policies to reduce air pollution using various methods. For example, implementing odd-even to increasing taxes, and finally preparing infrastructure so that people leave their cars or motorbikes.
“And also the other steps that we are currently formulating. On Friday we will listen to the report so that next week we will bring it to the ratas (limited meeting) and we will hear the decision from the President,” said Luhut
