(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-seo = Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min repeatedly bowed his head to the victims of the Itaewon disaster during the comprehensive audit of the National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee held on the 26th.
On this day, three days before the first anniversary of the Itaewon disaster, Minister Lee was asked by Rep. Song Jae-ho of the Democratic Party of Korea, “Are you willing to go to the president and visit the bereaved family to apologize?” to which he responded, “Of course I am willing.”
At the Public Administration and Security Commission audit held on the 10th, he bowed his head again after saying, “I think no amount of apology (to the bereaved family) is enough.”
Minister Lee apologized once again when People Power Party lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong asked about his thoughts, regrets, and resolutions ahead of the first anniversary of the Itaewon disaster.
Minister Lee said, “I express my deepest condolences to the victims of the October 29 disaster and pray for the deceased to rest in peace,” and added, “I also offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who are experiencing great sorrow.”
He said, “I feel sorry and feel infinite responsibility for not being able to protect the precious lives of the people,” and added, “I will do my best to ensure that the unfortunate sacrifices of the deceased are not in vain.”
Previously, Minister Lee Sang-min said in a press release titled ‘A message on the first anniversary of the October 29 disaster’, “Once again, I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who are experiencing great sadness that is difficult to even fathom due to the loss of their beloved family members.” .
