Decision to put an end to the computer network crisis and consideration of a special invitation to the British Cabinet Secretary
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Yang Jeong-woo = It was announced on the 20th that Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min will depart on the 21st for a business trip to the United Kingdom, where President Yoon Seok-yeol is on a state visit.
Minister Lee was initially scheduled to accompany President Yoon on his state visit, but as the government’s administrative computer network was paralyzed, he focused on resolving the situation.
Minister Lee was scheduled to visit Portugal and the United States sequentially starting on the 12th of this month to promote digital government and public administration, but returned home early on the 18th when a computer network paralysis occurred.
He presided over a countermeasures meeting that afternoon and ordered rapid computer network restoration. ‘Government 24’, which had been suspended on the 19th, was resumed, and civil service services at administrative sites were also resumed as normal on the 20th.
Now that the computer network crisis has been resolved, Minister Lee plans to leave for the UK as originally planned and accompany President Yoon, while also completing the schedule coordinated in advance by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the British Cabinet Office.
It is said that a special invitation from the British government was also taken into consideration in Minister Lee’s final decision to go on a business trip to the UK.
In an invitation letter sent to Minister Lee on the 10th of this month, British Cabinet Office Minister Alex Burgart reportedly requested that he accompany President Yoon on his state visit and proposed signing a ‘digital cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU)’ between Korea and the UK.
It is reported that the memorandum of understanding includes the expansion of the role of ‘Digital Nations’, a ministerial-level consultative body created by both countries, and cooperation measures between the two countries to resolve the digital gap in developing countries.
Vice Minister Ko Ki-dong, on behalf of Minister Lee, is scheduled to attend the question on pending issues of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security related to the administrative computer network paralysis at the National Assembly Public Administration and Security Committee on the 23rd.
