For months, Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey (SPD) had to tremble for her political career because of her beautiful doctoral thesis. And now the ex-mayor of Neukölln has to deal with private problems again.
Her husband Karsten has lost his job as an official in the Berlin State Office for Health and Social Affairs. The online magazine “Business Insider” reports. Karsten Giffey worked at the agency as a veterinarian.
The reason for the sudden end of his career: The veterinarian had apparently cheated during his working hours and accounted for business trips that never took place.
A spokesman for the responsible Berlin administrative court confirmed a disciplinary decision by his authority, according to which Giffey should be released from the civil service relationship.
At the request of “Business Insider” neither Franziska nor Karsten Giffey wanted to comment. A ministry spokeswoman: “The minister does not comment on personal matters of family members.”
Franziska and Karsten Giffey had married in 2008, their son was born a year later. In 2015 Franziska Giffey took over from Heinz Buschkowsky the mayor’s office in Neukölln. In 2018 she was promoted to Federal Minister of Family Affairs.
