Minister Gebauer: Our teachers hold the key to the best education in their hands

The Ministry of Schools and Education informs:

The state government is making around 5.5 million euros available to enable teachers in North Rhine-Westphalia to take additional training courses in the organization and planning of schools and lessons in a digitized world. School and Education Minister Yvonne Gebauer explained: “This week we are introducing a draft law into parliament that will for the first time anchor digital learning and teaching in the school education mandate in the School Act. Fulfilling this mandate is one of the most important tasks of our teachers, who hold the key to the best education in their hands even in the 21st century. With our digital strategy Schule NRW, we are therefore placing a focus on the training and further education of our teachers and are planning a digital further education offensive for the next year. Before that, we want to provide a sustainable impetus for the digitization of our schools with an additional budget. “

The additional training budget of 1,000 euros each is made available to all public schools and all approved alternative schools in North Rhine-Westphalia via the district governments. In order to meet the different training needs of the schools as quickly as possible and as quickly as possible, the money can be used at the beginning of the year for tailor-made training courses on site. In doing so, ongoing training measures can be expanded and extended or new training courses initiated for the teachers. Last year, the Ministry of Education allocated the schools an additional training budget of the same amount in order to support the teachers with the organization and planning of digital teaching formats at short notice.

“In the meantime, digital formats are also firmly anchored in classroom teaching. So that our teachers can make the best possible use of the opportunities offered by digitization, we have made their education and training a central field of action of our digital strategy School NRW. I am convinced that every euro that we invest in the additional qualification of our teachers pays off for our students and therefore for all of us, “concluded Minister Gebauer.
