Minister Demir: “Think we have a good solution for the Bruges stadium file” | Jupiler Pro League

The facts have long been known: Club Brugge would like to build a new stadium at the current location of Jan Breydel, Cercle Brugge would get a smaller stadium on the Blankenbergse Steenweg. The 2 clubs would also build practice fields at the latter location.

But the Council of State dropped a bomb in early October. The stadium file on the Blankenbergse Steenweg was given an njet, after several people had lodged an appeal.

According to the Council of State, the new project would increase the amount of land in Bruges intended for football in Bruges from 21 to 71 hectares. Project developers, farmers, environmental organizations and local residents appealed against the 50 hectares along the Blankenbergse Steenweg.

Minister Demir took over the file and decided, in consultation with the city of Bruges and the clubs, to continue with the construction of a stadium and a business park on the Blankenbergse Steenweg, but the initial plan is being adapted to meet the criticism of the Council of State. Among other things, there are changes in terms of parking, water buffering and landscape use.

That adjusted plan had to be adopted within a month by the full Council of Ministers, so that is today.

Minister Demir did not want to confirm in De Oorning that there was a breakthrough. “We are going to discuss this with colleagues in the government. I will not prejudge that. We have worked hard, with the city, the football clubs and everyone involved. I think we have a good solution that meets the comments given in the judgment. “
