Bulgaria will purchase shunting locomotives of the latest generation. They will have the option of unmanned driving. This was announced by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Gvozdeikov, signed a contract for the supply of 9 electric shunting locomotives. The machines will be purchased with PVU funds.
The investment is worth BGN 10.5 million. The term of the contract is until the middle of 2026.
Gvozdeikov pointed out that the new rolling stock will replace the nearly 50-year-old diesel locomotives currently in use at the depots. According to him, the project will reduce the costs of maneuvers and harmful emissions from this activity, as well as provide the railway carrier with modern and modern equipment.
The Minister of Transport clarified that the new locomotives will be used in the largest depots in the country and will significantly improve the working conditions of the employees. “The locomotives are of the latest generation and allow them to be operated remotely without a driver inside the cab,” specified Gvozdeikov.
In addition, the contract includes the maintenance of the locomotives for a period of 15 years and training of the personnel. The executor of the activities is “Express Service” OOD.
