Minister: Belarus has prepared “asymmetric sanctions” for the Baltic States :: Dienas Bizness

Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makey said on Wednesday that Minsk had prepared “asymmetric sanctions” for the Baltic states in response to the entry ban imposed by Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia earlier this week on Belarusian officials responsible for the falsification of presidential elections and violence.

As he pointed out at a press conference in Moscow after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, such a list of Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian citizens has already been prepared, but Belarus does not plan to publish it.

According to McKay, the list includes “those who have indeed openly intervened in Belarus, made unacceptable statements, including political ones, and, moreover, made concrete proposals for financial support for opponents of power.”

“If sanctions are imposed by other countries, we will also take appropriate decisions and provide an adequate response,” he added.

The Minister has indicated that the sanctions against Belarus will also apply on Russian territory.

“It simply came to our notice then [sarakstu] to publish. But believe me – it includes a large enough number of people from the three Baltic states, and considering that Russia and I have a common list of people who do not want to enter the United States, I think it might make them think a little, “said the Belarusian Foreign Minister.

As reported, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia on Monday imposed an entry ban on Belarusian officials responsible for the falsification of the August 9 presidential election and the subsequent violent repression of peaceful protests. Sanctions against the Minsk regime are also being considered by the European Union.
