Minister Bruins says that a total of about 160 people have been (or have been) hospitalized because of the coronavirus. Less than half of this is provided on IC.
Various measures are being taken to increase the number of beds on the IC by 1,500. Planned care is thus scaled down. This creates space because patients sometimes end up on the IC after an operation. In addition, hospital staff are deployed in a different way. Therefore, IC beds that are not normally occupied will become available. Finally, the Defense organization can provide 70 additional respirators.
Scaled up further to 2000
According to the minister, hospitals are currently looking at expanding measures, such as the purchase of extra respiratory equipment. This would mean that the capacity can be further scaled up to about 2000 IC beds.
