The president of the Central de Trabajadores/as Alianza Sindical Independiente (ASI), Leyda Marcela León, announced that they are asking to increase the minimum wage to $200 by May 1.
They also expect that during the year there will be two more adjustments and “we will have a living wage of $400.”
He also affirmed that the instance will have the objective of guaranteeing the rounds of social dialogues.
Through a press release from El Nacional it was learned that a commission of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which will be permanently in Venezuela, will propose a minimum wage of 400 dollars.
This agreement came during the 347th session of the ILO Governing Body.
There, the report presented by the ILO Director General, Gilbert Houngbo, was discussed, in which he pointed out the concern about the few advances in concrete results.
During the meeting they agreed to present a new follow-up report at the 349th meeting, to be held in November.
For its part, the ILO agreed to accelerate compliance with conventions 26, 87 and 144, and the presence of an expert from the organization on a continuous and permanent basis.
The expert will be accompanying the entire process of the Social Dialogue Forum in Venezuela.
For this March 27, a meeting of the tripartite salary table will be held.
“We are going to look for better results so that what we are asking for is produced on May 1, a salary increase to $200,” said León.
They hope that two more adjustments will take place during the year “so that in the month of December we have a decent wage.”
He also assured that they will define, together with the technicians, the indicators referring to productivity and the value of the food basket.
This in accordance with the Venezuelan family group to establish a minimum wage.
The minimum wage would be agreed between the government, the private sector, and the workers.
